Yes, I was one of “them” this past Saturday morning. I got up a bit earlier than I might usually do on a weekend morning and drove out to the nearest Apple store where I’d reserved an iPad for pick-up (32gb wi-fi hit the sweet spot for capacity, functionality and price for me).
So obviously I spent most of the day syncing it, loading new apps and generally just relishing the magical experience. I’m sold on it. It works for me as a great in-between device that will lighten my load in many cases. Heck, I’m writing this post on it right now!
But this post isn’t a review of the iPad- heck, most folks are probably sick of hearing those by now. This story is just about how I set up an Easter egg hunt for my kids with my iPad.
Pretty simple, really: we always do clues for our hunts, usually written on paper, taking the boys from egg to egg until they get to their big baskets. This year I changed the clues to visual hints. As I hid each egg, I took a close-up picture of it with my iPhone so that they a got just a hint of where it might be. I emailed each image to myself, and then opened the emails on my iPad and saved them locally. Then I built a Keynote presentation with the images, so that my wife and I could just stand in the kitchen and give them each new clue after they found the prior egg. The boys had a blast, and it was really quick and easy to set up. And using the iPad gave it a real cool-factor.
Wonder what I can do with this for Halloween…
