Some of you might have seen a little something that ran in “the trades” yesterday that is of interest to the greater GeekDad community. The Hollywood Reporter ran a story titled “GeekDad Blog and Books to Be Adapted for Film, TV.” The vibe of the piece is that GeekDad has been optioned by Hollywood and you can expect to start picking up your GeekDad collector cups at Burger King any day now.
Well, there’s a long row to hoe before any of that happens. The nuts and bolts of the story are that there are some nice folks from the movie industry interested in our brand and the potential for creating something out of it. Could be a movie, could be a TV show, could be both. But it’s way too early to tell. I’m sure our good friend John Kovalic could tell us stories about the hot-and-cold nature of getting your rights optioned by producers. So, as with all such things, take it with a dose of realism.
Which is not to say the GeekDads haven’t been tearing up our internal email group with speculation over what actors should be playing each of us (knowing full well any GeekDad movie won’t actually be about GeekDad). But that’s part of the dream, and today we’re one press release closer to that dream, which is awesome.
So, if and/or when things really start to happen with this project, we’ll let you know. Until then, we can all speculate as to how we’ll cast Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, Nathan Fillion, Bruce Campbell and so on in our imagined GeekDad epic. Hey, have your people call our people, and set something up!
