The Space Shuttle Discovery will be taking its final journey this Thursday (barring the need to call it out of mothballs in the future to divert a marauding asteroid). I love to watch space launches, but where I work I can’t pop the TV on, so listening is my only alternative. Luckily, there’s SomaFM’s Mission Control, an Internet Radio channel that will play a mix of ambient tunes (just the right mellow vibe for exploring space) as well as the live audio feed from NASA. It’s kind of like watching real space adventure with a classic Vangelis soundtrack to back it.
SomaFM will be covering the launch of STS-133 beginning Wednesday, February 23rd on Mission Control. We will also have live updates from Kennedy Space Center and reports with SomaFM’s unique perspective on the launch, which takes place at Discovery’s launch at 1:40pm Pacific / 4:50pm Eastern /21:50 GMT on 2/24. Our audio coverage will begin no later than noon Pacific time on Thursday. We will also have photos and text updates from the Kennedy Space Center beginning Feb 23rd.
