Space and exploration can be an exciting idea, especially to young people. How often growing up have we exclaimed that we wanted to be an astronaut? Yet despite the ending of the imminent mothballing of the Constellation program at NASA, there are still hundreds of career options available to people wishing to be involved and not just in manned space flight. Exploring those career options can net your child some cash and a trip to a NASA center by participating in the No Boundaries 2010 contest.
The contest, a venture sponsored by NASA and USA Today and just launched on Tuesday, has students working in groups to explore a particular NASA career in the areas of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Once the research is complete, students create a presentation marketing that career. These presentations can take the form of a video, podcast, website or any creative medium that help to show how cool these careers are. Materials for students and teachers can be found on the No Boundaries website.
In 2008, the winning team from Prairie School in Racine, Wisconsin, created a website about Astrobiologists. Their site also included an inspirational video that highlighted how students today can succeed.
The deadline for entries is May 15th, 2010.
