This year has seen a disproportionate amount of great albums released from across the greater geeky music spectrum. So many, in fact, that it has proven difficult to keep up. Thankfully for you, there’s HipTrax!

In this edition we feature songs from a trio of new releases from three of our favorite artists:

“Worms Make Dirt” as covered by Uncle Monsterface

Truly there is no better way to kick off an episode of HipTrax than with this Uncle Monsterface take on an Aquabats classic. This cover, along with four other stellar examples, is available on Jokey Jingles Ultimate Dance Party Mix Volume 3, an EP given away for free to subscribers of the UMF mailing list.

“Contains Mild Euphoria” by Pixelh8

Pixelh8 is not only an honorary GeekDad, he is also a bona fide contributor to GamePeople, the family-centered gaming site of our own Paul Govan. And did I mention he’s a groundbreaking chiptune artist? You can experience his refreshing brand of warm, emotionally resonant electronica on his new release And the Revolution.

“Sixteen Bit” by Elfonso

Uniquely blending folksy, almost Gaelic instrumentation with classic videogame imagery, Elfonso has been a HipTrax favorite ever since our third episode. Now, with a fresh new self-titled album, the UK game rockers are poised to further redefine what VGM can (and should) be.

The HipTrax theme song was created by Snake Eyes. The sad truth? His eyes aren’t particularly snakey.
